Movie of the week (6)

Movie: Source code
Genre: Mystery, Sci-fi, Thriller
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan & Jeffry Wright
Release date: April, 2011
IMDB rating: 7,5/10
Rotten tomatoes rating: 92%
Plot: Colter Stevens wakes up to find himself on a moving train with a woman named Christina, sitting opposite him who seems to know him. Colter starts to panic remembering that he is a soldier and the last he recalls is being in a mission. 8 minutes later the train is blown up and everyone on board dies, but Colter lands in his cubicle with a woman's voice speaking to him.

It seems Colter is part of a governmental experiment called Source code. This experiment allows Colter to be transported into the body of another man who was on that train. The main goal is for Colter to gather as much clues and information as possible to lead the government to the terrorist's next target. The problem lies in the fact that Colter only has the last 8 minutes in the man's life to grasp as many as he can. He is also struggling with his memories to recall how he ended up in that experiment, and to find a way to save Christina whom he fell for.

My opinion: It's been quite a journey with this movie for me. It took me around two years to finally watch it :D I've had it downloaded on my laptop and just never had the energy to watch it, but I'm so glad I did.
The story is very intriguing and had me glued to my laptop screen waiting for what's next. The idea of the source code was very new to me and I found it very smart. I love movies that present new ideas I'm not familiar with and get me searching and thinking.
The performances were very good and I especially liked Vera Farmiga, she was a character that had to be tough for her job but hasn't set aside her feelings as a human. She was Colter's connection to the world, his soothing voice and only friend.

The visual effects were needed in this movie to replay the train's explosion scene over and over again and they were good. I found them shocking in the last scene as well, but I won't talk about that so nothing would be revealed :D

The movie is only and hour and a half and when it was over I felt it was too short, but they were well spent and much better that sitting around for two boring hours :) I'd recommend this movie to anyone looking for a thrilling experience.
My rating: 8.5/10
