Okita sougo is the captain of
the first squad in the Shinsengumi (Edo Police Force). He was a trainee at
Kondo Isao's dojo, before the Shinsengumi was formed, with Kondo as the commander.
Sougo is one of the best swordsmen in the Shinsengumi. Sougo was raised by his
older sister, Mitsuba, who used to spoil him because he had no parents. He's
known for his laid back, sadistic character. He's protective of those he cares
for, especially Kondo and his sister. He's not submissive to the authority of
the Amanto when it opposes his conscience. He's, often, seen with a bazooka,
especially when following Katsura, bringing mess wherever he shoots.
When
I talk about Sougo's relations with everyone, the first thing that comes to
mind is his relation with Hijikata Toushiro, the shinsengumi vice commander and
his former comrade at Kondo's dojo. Since the very beginning of Gintama and
Sougo has made it clear he hated Hijikata. He even tries to kill him, as if by
accident. It is always comical though; he works with Hijikata when he has to.
The reason why he hates Hijikata is jealousy. Sougo was the centre of attention
of his sister and Kondo before Hijikata shows up. Sougo thinks that Hijikata
has taken everything from him, because of Kondo's and Mitsuba's care for the
later. He hated him the most when Hijikata rejected Mitsuba, Sougo's sister,
though deep down he knew that Hijikata did it for her sake. However, at the end
of the day, Sougo is by Hijikata's side when things get serious, for he knows
he's not his enemy, he's a friend.
The second
relation that comes to mind is Sougo's with Kagura! Their duo is one of my favorite
in Gintama. They are always hilarious. They are both very childish. Sougo calls
her China and they always engage in fights. They help each other twice in two
different arcs. They tend to be rivals, but they are good friends too.
Sougo is one of my favorite Gintama characters for many reasons. He's a member of the Shinsengumi, and I absolutely like them. Gintama is a gag manga, so it's mainly about laughs, and Sougo gives me a good laugh. Also, when things get serious he's more than fine. His feud with Kagura is the best. Besides, he's one of the few Gintama characters that treat Gintoki with a little bit of respect. XD
