Movie of the Week (3)

Movie: The Devil Wears Prada
Genre: Comedy – Drama
Starring: Anne Hathaway – Meryl Streep – Emily Blunt
IMDB Rating: 6.8/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 76%

The Devil wears Prada is based on a novel by the same name. The main character Andy (Anne Hathaway) is a fresh graduate Journalist. She gets a job as a junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the editor-in-chief of Runway fashion magazine. The job is the dream of many girls who would die for. Andy is not interested in the shallow world of fashion, though. However, she takes the job as an opportunity to get a better one as a reporter or a writer in a year.
In the meanwhile, Andy doesn't have to, only, put up with a job she's not interested in, but with her icy boss, Miranda, and the bossy senior assistant Emily (Emily Blunt). Andy has to adapt to the gossipy world of fashion she's put herself into. She, also, struggles to maintain a relationship with her college friends and boyfriend that suits her new life style. So how much can Andy sacrifice to for the sake of her ambitions?

As of what I thought of the movie, I thought, generally, it was good. All the actors played their roles skillfully, and I can't be the one talking about a performance by Meryl Streep. The story was good. In the beginning you sympathize with Andy, and support her success, but later on it feels like she stated to lose what made her special, we seize to sympathize until she realizes that herself. Miranda's strictness towards Andy adds suspense to the plotline. Also, Andy's sarcastic attitude in the beginning, and a character like Nigel the art director who helps Andy, acted as comic relief that goes well with the story. Apart from all that, I've got to say that watching the evolution of Andy's dressing style was my favorite part of the movie. Don't get me wrong! I'm not that kind of girl! I'm not that interested in fashion and stuff like that, but the clothes were really catchy in that movie! :D

My Rating: 7.5/10
I wanted to give it a 7. It was not my favorite Anne Hathaway movie, but it was a good movie, so an extra 0.5 for the clothes :D
